Honoring Board Member Mark Mettler For His Years of Service to Greater Boston PFLAG

September 30, 2020, Boston, MA — Greater Boston PFLAG said thank you and farewell to Mark Mettler, long-standing member and Treasurer of our Board of Directors at a recent meeting, having completed his latest term of service.

Over the course of six years, Mark has served as both Board Chair and then Treasurer. His leadership and service has helped Greater Boston PFLAG (GBPFLAG) through a time of evolution into a new stage of the organization. Mark first joined the Greater Boston PFLAG Board in 2014. Since that time, GBPFLAG’s organizational and programmatic capacity has grown, allowing an increase in outreach and impact to the community we serve.

“Over the past three years, it’s been my pleasure to work and serve with Mark,” said Deb Zucker, current Board Chair. “His willingness to devote his time and talents to take on any objective needing attention, including Pride & Passion event co-chair, Treasurer and YesOn3 advocacy to name just a few, has been fundamental to the tremendous growth and success of the organization. We truly appreciate his dedicated service and look forward to staying in touch for years to come.”

We are grateful for his commitment to the Greater Boston LGBTQ+ community. We look forward to his continued presence in the organization through this transition, as well as his work on our Speaker’s Bureau, sharing his story and experiences to a wide range of audiences."

For every single family who receives help, the work we do is impactful and makes a difference, and that's what gives me the most satisfaction, to see the very personal and real difference we make in peoples' lives," Mark said. "That look in another parent's eye, that they're grasping for something and you've given them something to hold on to that will help them, is something I'll always take from my experience with PFLAG.  I look forward to continuing to share my voice as a volunteer speaker and to assisting the Board Affairs Committee by sharing with others that great sense of purpose I experienced serving on the board."

As we give our thanks to Mark for his service on the Board, we also welcome our two newest members, Maureo Fernandez y Mora and Alyssa Rayman-Read, who began their first terms in September. We are fortunate to have passionate and dedicated individuals joining us as we continue to advance our mission.

We continue to seek out and welcome more members to join our all-volunteer Board which serves primarily as a governing and fundraising body. In January 2020, the Board adopted a new Strategic Plan, which emphasizes our commitment to building an organization and Board that is representative of the diversity of the LGTBQ+ community and its allies. As we work to become a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization, we encourage applicants of every sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, sex, age, religion, ability, and class, including family and/or caregivers of LGBTQ+ people of all ages.
